EVENTS CONDUCTED IN CIVIL ENGG DEPT

INAUGURATION OF SHIPLI AT V.V.I.E.T - Student wing of Builders Association of India (BAI)
This was the first event in Civil Dept
SHILPI centre was inaugurated in V.V.I.E.T., Mysore on 10th May 2007 in the presence of all Office bearers & members of BAI (Mysore Centre), Dr.Syed Shakeeb Ur Rahman, Vice Principal of SJCE,Dean - Faculty of Engineering,VTU,Belgaum, the then Principal Dr.P.Mahadevappa who is presently the Director(Technical) of V.V.I.E.T. Mysore and our Beloved Head of the Department Dr.N.R.Krishnaswamy and Sri. Y.R. Suresh who was the then Faculty coordinator.
Under this the budding Civil Engineers are trained to recent technical advances and reduces the gap between Industries and Academia.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED UNDER SHILPI:

• Many Students of Final year Civil Engg underwent technical training programs like Auto CAD, STAAD Pro & Fundamentals of Structural Engineering.


• Field visits to Krishna Raja Sagar Dam (K.R.S), Karnataka Engineering Research Station (K.E.R.S) and Ultratech RMC plant under the SHILPI & NIRMAAN initiation.


• A Technical Talk arranged by SHILPI on the topic “Present Challenges in Civil Engineering” recently.

INAUGURATION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS ASSOCIATION - NIRMAAN

The Students of Civil Engineering Dept formed an association of Civil Engineering students named “NIRMAAN” on October 24th 2007.

NIRMAAN was inaugurated by Mr. Jagadish Babu, MD of Sankalp Groups.
We also had a gracious presence of

• Mr.Yashavanth.A, MD of Sycone Groups,Bangalore.


• Dr.Syed Shakeeb Ur Rahman, Vice Principal of SJCE,Dean - Faculty of Engineering,VTU,Belgaum.


• Dr.S.Ramegowda, Former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka University Dharwad and Former Chairman of AICTE,Delhi and presently Mentor of V.V.I.E.T. Mysore


• Dr. B.S. Basavarajaiah, Special Officer of SJCE(Mysore), Chief Executive of J.S.S. Research Foundation, J.S.S.Technical Institutions Campus,Mysore.
  

Along with these dignitaries we had Our beloved Chairman Sri.Vasu,
the then Principal Dr.P.Mahadevappa who is presently the Director(Technical) of V.V.I.E.T. Mysore and our Beloved Head of the Department Dr.N.R.Krishnaswamy.

We had a Felicitation to Dr. B.S. Basavarajaiah by our Chairman Sri.Vasu.

On the same day Research Centre for Infrastructural Development was also inaugurated.

The function ended followed by lunch to all.

Thus was the enthusiastic start of Civil Dept students with the excellent guidance from all our Faculty.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED UNDER NIRMAAN:

• A Field visit to Karighatta in Mandya District for Geological studies.


• A Technical visit to Department of Studies in Geology, Manasagangothri, University of Mysore.


• Screening of a movie titled “An Inconvenient Truth” as a part of Environmental Awareness.


• A Technical talk by Kowshika.A.R., DMG of RMC plant followed by a Field Visit to Ready Mix Concrete Plant.


• Field visits to Krishna Raja Sagar Dam (K.R.S), Karnataka Engineering Research Station (K.E.R.S) and Ultratech RMC plant under the SHILPI & NIRMAAN initiation.


• Release of Newsletter CIVILITY & launched the website www.civilvviet.com


• Technical talk by Sri.T.D. Mana Mohan, Chief Engg (Retd) KPWD, Karnataka on “Reconstruction, Rehabilitation & Construction of the Temples of TalaKaveri and Bhagamandala at the origin of River Kaveri”

In future days Civil Department will take up more and more visits and talks for the benefits of students along with NIRMAAN & SHILPI.

INAUGURATION OF NEWS LETTER CIVILITY, LAUNCHING OF DEPARTMENTAL WEBSITE AND BOOK RELEASE

On 24th April 2009 the first Newsletter of Civil Engineering Department “CIVILITY” was released by Chief Guest Sri.T.D. Mana Mohan, Chief Engg (Retd) KPWD, Karnataka. Our beloved Principal Dr.B.Chandrashekar and our Head of the Department Dr. N.R. Krishnaswamy were present on this remarkable occasion.

On the same day our very first Departmental website of V.V.I.E.T. was launched.

A Book titled “Vaastu and Its Important Ethics” authored by present final year Civil Engg student Kum.Rohini Narahari was also released.

Dignitaries in their speech explained us the present trends & growth of Civil Engineering. They also appreciated the Department and Students effort in bringing out first newsletter, book and website inspite of being the youngest branch in V.V.I.E.T.

The function ended followed by lunch to all.

Later in afternoon session Technical talk by Sri.T.D. Mana Mohan, Chief Engg (Retd) KPWD, Karnataka was arranged on the topic
"Reconstruction, Rehabilitation & Construction of the Temples of TalaKaveri and Bhagamandala at the origin of River Kaveri"
